Beaver Feaver

Since the last time I have posted we have caught a small beaver and two more coons. Then this morning we caught this huge 50lb beaver in a 330 conabear. Here you can see it next to my seven year old sister.

We had a big coon take one of our foot hold traps by snapping the wire. We trailed it to another den and have set an extra trap there to try and recover it.

I have been messing with hides all day. I LOVE IT!!!

Amazing!

I wouldn't usually post this small of a muskrat but today was a pretty unique situation. I was setting some traps on my boss's land. I put a trap on a cinder block in some deep water right along side a bridge and baited it with skunk essence. After setting the rest of my traps which took about three hours I went back to the four wheeler and just happened to look over the bridge and I saw that I had already caught a muskrat in my trap! Now that's trapping!

A blessed morning

It was another successful morning. Almost made me late for school...then it would have been my hide getting tanned. I caught another Muskrat, a Raccoon and a Magpie. I hate catching magpie's they are dirty and make a mess. It must have been drawn to the coyote lure. Anyway, I'm thankful for the harvest.

Opening of trapping season.

Yesterday I set three conabears for muskrats. Today I caught my first muskrat of the year. Tomorrow I plan to set my land sets for coyote, mink and raccoon.

I hope to trap quite a few this year, I will post more if I do. Last year I made over $50 selling hides.

Winnie The Pooh

Just sharing some pictures taken from the trail camera where we hunt.. My dad, David and I have already harvested bears so these are ones that my younger two brothers will have a shot at. There have been five bears hitting this bait for the past three weeks. My Uncle Dan shot one last weekend. This year has been the most successful bait that we have ever had. My favorite is the bears fighting.

Really Prospering

In his book "Fundamentals of Prosperity", Roger Babson writes about visiting a famous manufacturer who also owns cows.
He had a record on every cow. He knew every thing that animal did, probably even every disease each one had suffered. In his library at home he had a blue print of every cows pedigree.

Later on that day a punk boy pulled in his driveway asking for that mans only daughter to take to a dance. Roger Babson also points out that he didn't bring her back until 2 o'clock in the morning. When Roger asked the father who he was. The father said "I don't know, just some friend of hers." he cared more about his livestock's doings then about his daughter doings.

That is exactly what the world is like today.

Men run off to their jobs where they try to feel "successful" and neglect the one thing that will truly bring them success. The souls of their children.
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Matthew 16:26
How much worse he would feel to gain the whole world and lose the soul of his child.

Larry the Lunker

My brothers and I went fishing on the Snake River behind our house. It is a hole we fish in quite often. There I caught Larry the Lunker. He's 4 pounds and I am going to get him mounted. I have to pay for it myself so that means my plans for a hound dog are on hold for a minute. But it is worth it anyway.

Our Boat

We went to Missoula, Montana on Saturday and bought a boat. It's a 1990 open bow, seventeen foot Glastron Sierra. It is an absolute blast. We took it up to Rire Reservoir and drove all over the lake. I just can't wait to go SKIING and TUBING. Ski's and a tube came with it.

Honoring Dad

Sunday is father's day but papa got his gift before then. It was a sage colored lazy boy (not that we where trying to tell him anything). When he got home from work we all kind of made him jump when we cried "HAPPY FATHERS DAY" but he calmed down a little and was in his chair telling us how comfortable it was. I wonder if my family will do special things like that for me?

Good Bye Bandit

Bandit was given to us by my boss last year. He was meant to be a guard dog for herd protection. The problem is Bandit does not have enough work here to keep him busy. Sitting and watching the goats feed is just not his style. So, he will be leaving us in a few days to go live with a cowboy who has hundreds of cows for Bandit to chase and herd all over the hills. I will miss him but I know he will be happy and because he is happy I can be happy.
